Stock Mouth Guards
Available at most sporting goods stores, stock guards are the most affordable option for young athletes. Because of their stock sizes, they are available for athletes young and old. However, since there is little customization of their fit to your child’s teeth, they offer less shock absorption in the event of a sports injury.
Boil and Bite
As the name describes, boil and bite mouth guards can be boiled, softened, and bit into by your child to create an impression of their teeth. This provides some customization to your child’s bite, and thus more protection in the event of a sports injury. We recommend these mouth guards for our younger athletes. A child’s jaws are constantly growing and shifting: boil and bite guards in younger athletes need to be routinely refabricated to accommodate their growing jaws and changing bite.
Custom Athletic Guards
Custom athletic guards are fabricated in a dental lab, using an impression of your child’s teeth. Appropriate for teenage athletes, custom guards provide the most comfortable fit, as well as the best protection and shock absorption. Studies have shown a decreased incidence of sports related concussions in athletes that wear custom athletic guards. In addition to their superior safety, custom guards can be stylish! Dental labs are able to customize these guards with your child’s favorite color and other fun designs.
