Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide, or “laughing gas,” is commonly used in pediatric dentistry to help children relax during dental procedures. Unlike sedation, where a child is partially or fully asleep for treatment, children remain awake and alert while inhaling nitrous oxide. Nitrous will only work for as long as we administer it; there are no residual effects of drowsiness once a procedure is finished. Safe, effective, and with little to no side effects, laughing gas is an excellent option to help nervous patients enjoy their visit with us.
IV Sedation
IV sedation is an excellent option for our patients with severe anxiety and for patients that require a large amount of treatment. This type of sedation allows children to be completely asleep during treatment, so that our pediatric dentist can complete all of their treatment safely and efficiently. This type of anesthesia is administered by an anesthesiologist and their team, who continually monitor your child throughout the procedure. By having two doctors present, the anesthesiologist and the pediatric dentist, we provide the safest possible environment for your child. Sedation dentistry also enables us to maintain a positive relationship with our most anxious patients, minimizing fear and maximizing comfort for children during lengthier procedures.
